Nine businesses receive grants for solar arrays
Nine more local business in San Juan County are participating in the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP). They are among 17 projects in Utah to purchase and install a solar array.
Coral Sands RV Park in Bluff received a $245,432 grant to purchase and install a solar array. The project is expected to save over $17,651 and replace 100 percent of their energy usage per year.
Monticello Merc Inc. in Monticello is granted $71,775, resulting in a yearly savings of $4,395. It is anticipated that the solar array will reduce energy dependence by 100 percent.
Redd Mechanical Inc. in Blanding received $20,000. This project will save $1,614 per year and will replace 16,137 kilowatt hours (kWh) (100 percent) per year.
Mokee Motel LLC in Bluff received $59,496. This project will save $3,303 per year and will replace 30,026 kilowatt hours (kWh).
Lyle Northern Electric Inc. in Blanding received $20,000. This project will save $1,534 per year and will replace 12,789 kilowatt hours (kWh) (100 percent) per year.
Blanding Super Splash LLC and Super Splash Inc. each received $20,000. Each project will save $1,475 per year and will replace 14,7584 kWh (42 percent) per year.
Monson’s Quality Meat Processing LLC in Blanding received $20,000. This project will save $1,598 per year and will replace 15,984 kWh (27 percent) per year.
The REAP program administered through the US Department of Agriculture. Through the REAP program, USDA provides grants and loans to help ag producers and small business owners expand their use of wind, solar and other forms of clean energy and make energy efficiency improvements.
