Two killed in Hwy 191 head-on collision
Two people were killed when their vehicles hit head on during the early morning hours of Thursday, September 14, 2023. The crash occurred on Highway 191, just south of the Needles Overlook road, in an area that has been the location of a number of recent fatal crashes. In fact, the area is currently a construction zone to widen the road.
According the Utah Department of Safety, at about 12:47 am, a white Ford Taurus was northbound and a blue Nissan Sentra was southbound when one of the cars crossed the centerline.
The two vehicles struck each other head-on. Soon afterward, a Penske commercial vehicle traveling southbound came into the scene and struck the Nissan. Both single occupants in the sedans sustained fatal injuries, including a 83-year-old male in the Ford, and a 59-year-old female in the Nissan.
The driver of the Penske truck was not injured and walked away from the crash. Investigators are still trying to determine which vehicle crossed over the centerline.
The highway was closed in both directions for approximately three hours during the investigation.
More details will be released in the future.
