Vote for first Best of San Juan Awards

Official voting for the 2020 Best of San Juan Awards are now open to the public. Anyone can head to the chamber website, at sanjuancountychamber.com, to vote for their favorite local businesses. You can even check and see which businesses are pulling ahead in votes.

This March, the San Juan County Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development is hosting the first annual Best of San Juan Awards! 

The Best of San Juan Awards highlights and awards the businesses in San Juan County for their continued excellence. The chamber is currently running an online poll to select the winners in the various categories. 

The categories range from the standard, “Best Food in San Juan County” to the more fun, “Favorite Tourist Trap in San Juan County” with many options for all types of businesses. 

Other categories include: Best in Auto Services, San Juan County Business of the Year, Best in Agriculture and Animals, and Best Golden Oldie. 

The awards are simple, fun,  and run like this: first a short nomination window is opened. Businesses and residents can nominate any business or entity they wish across 21 categories.

If a business is a Chamber of Commerce member, they do not have to be nominated. Chamber members are automatically added to the official voting. 

Next, all the nominations are checked, tallied, and moved to official voting. This where things get fun – when a winner for each category is selected!

Anyone can vote for their favorite businesses on the Chamber website (sanjuancountychamber.com) or on the Chamber Facebook page. 

Finally, the winning businesses will be announced on March 20 at the Best of San Juan Awards banquet dinner.

Dinner tickets are available to the general public for $25 apiece or two for $40. Chamber members save 40 percent on banquet tickets.

The San Juan Chamber of Commerce works to help local businesses. This new event is an extension of the work that the chamber has been doing for years.

The hope is that the event will help raise awareness of our local businesses and the large variety of services that are available close to home.

There are so many businesses in San Juan County that it is hard to keep track of all of them. 

That is the second purpose of the Best of San Juan Awards, to help find all the businesses.

The county is large and knowing what businesses, especially home-based businesses, are spread throughout our rural towns can be extraordinarily difficult.

The Chamber hopes that recognizing local businesses and calling for nominations will help bring many of those businesses out of the woodwork and into the front and center. 

The San Juan County Chamber of Commerce is excited about this new program and has enjoyed all the participation thus far.
