<i>San Juan Record</i> updates website at sjrnews.com

On-line readers of the San Juan Record have a wide range of additional options with the release of a newly redesigned website.
The news site, at www.sjrnews.com, features a number of articles from the newspaper’s weekly publication, in addition to a host of items that can be found only on the internet.
“We have found that the website is a great way to publish information that would never fit in our print issue,” said San Juan Record editor Bill Boyle. “We may get a dozen or more great photos at an event, but have never had the space to run more than a few. The website allows us to run a slideshow with as many photos as we want.”
In addition, visitors to the website can comment on stories, something that may become one of the popular features of the website.
“We are a little nervous about the comment sections because they have been so mean-spirited on other websites,” said Boyle. “We will monitor the comments, but hope that the website can be a source of respectful and substantive conversation about local issues.”.
The popular website averages more than 15,000 hits every month, with visitation from all 50 states and nearly every nation on earth.
Additional features on the website include free online classifieds, free business directory listings, and a searchable archive of nearly four years of information on the website.
While the website includes several news stories each week, it is not comprehensive. “We run a few stories, including major events, while keeping the full content to the paper restricted to subscribers,” said Boyle.
Readers of the San Juan Record can subscribe to the print issue, or purchase an online subscription that contains the entire paper.
“The current issue of the paper is downloadable from the internet every Wednesday morning with our online subscription,” said Boyle. “No more waiting for the mailman to deliver the paper.”
In addition to the website, the San Juan Record also has a presence on Facebook. “Social media is an information phenomenon and we are dedicated to having a strong site on Facebook,” said Boyle. “Send us a request, we love to have lots of Facebook friends and feel that our site will be very helpful for those interested in San Juan County.”
