Craig Leland Shumway
July 5, 1943 ~ December 2, 2016
Craig passed away at his home in Mesa, AZ. He was born to Leland Oliver Shumway and Dora Norton Shumway.
In high school he set the state record for the mile race, at the state competition, of 4.40 minutes, a record that was unbeaten for many years.
After high school, he accepted a calling to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the British area of Stoke-on-Trent. He returned home to continue his education at the University of Utah.
He met and married Earlene Giles of Pleasant Grove, UT in the Salt Lake City Temple. After fi nishing his Masters Degree in Sociology, he and Earlene, with their fi rst daughter Heather, moved to Mesa, AZ. Their children were Heather Naegle, Craig Ryan Shumway, Hilary Andrews, Joel Leland Shumway. They have many grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Craig had a long time career servicing the social needs of citizens in the Mesa and state area. He taught school at community college for over 30 years.
He was loved by his family dearly and will be missed.
His memorial service was December 9, 2016 in Mesa, AZ.
