Boys Soccer All-State Honors 2024

Three boys soccer players representing San Juan County earned All-State honors for the 2024 spring season.
The Deseret News released its annual lists of All-State student athletes on June 13, 14, and 18 based exclusively on coaches’ votes from a list of nominated players from each team.
The San Juan Record is proud to present each of the honorees along with photos and comments from their respective coaches.

Parkar Sopena
2A Boys Soccer Honorable Mention
San Juan Senior - Forward

Head Coach Jay Jones: “Parkar played hard every time that he took the field. This season he scored three goals and had 49 shots. He always looked for fast breaks and ways to work with his teammates to score. Parkar really stepped up as a leader when he was called to do so as Captain. If he wasn’t the one who scored, most of the time he helped with the build-up that led to the goal. His desire to win and help his team improve at the same time really helped our team grow and advance this year.”

RJ Dalley
2A Boys Soccer Honorable Mention
San Juan Senior - Defender

Head Coach Jay Jones: “RJ is one of those players you can ask to play any position and he will do it.  He mostly played one of our center defenders but we also had him help at midfield and on occasion striker. No matter where he played on the field, he always gave a hundred percent and did well.
“He was also one of our captains. When he was on the field he was able to work with his team to push forward, even if tempers and emotions ran high. He had one of only a few assists that our team had this season and it came during our playoff game. His skills and attitude greatly helped us improve this year.”

Javin Montella
2A Boys Soccer Honorable Mention
San Juan Junior - Goalkeeper

Head Coach Jay Jones: “Javin is a very driven student athlete and an amazing goalie. This season he made well over 130 saves. He gave everything he had to not only do his best but to help those around him. He regularly worked with the junior varsity goalies and gave them pointers when he wasn’t playing.
“Javin was also one of our captains because of his positive attitude and willingness to always help his teammates improve. He has really excelled at goalkeeper and we can’t wait to see what next year brings as he enters his senior year.”
