Buckaroos start baseball season off with a couple lopsided wins

The Monticello High School baseball team notched two wins in the past week to open their season with a 2-0 mark.
First, on Thursday, March 6, the Buckaroos destroyed the Monument Valley, AZ 24-0 in Kayenta. Sophomore Triston Felix had an outstanding day at the plate, going 4-for-4 and driving in six runs.
He hit two home runs and a double and scored five runs himself in the win. Junior Jaeden Camacho was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, a double, and two runs scored.
Camren Carpenter and Cache Young both got two hits and two RBIs apiece. And Arturo Gutierrez collected two hits and one RBI.
The Buckaroos stole 11 bases against the Mustangs and Triston Felix picked up the win on the mound. Felix faced nine batters in three innings earning nine strikeouts. Jackson Keyespitched two innings earning five strikeouts with neither pitcher giving up a hit.
On Monday, March 10 Monticello scored two runs against Dolores, CO in the first inning, then steadily added to their tally in the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings on the way to an 8-1 victory.
Felix again led the offense with a 3-for-4 day at the plate. He hit another homer and two doubles, driving in three runs for the Bucks.
Kord Young, Camren Carpenter, Cache Young, and Jackson Keyes all mustered one hit and one RBI apiece except for Keyes who drove in two runs on the day with a homer.
Monticello stole seven bases in the win with Jaeden Camacho and Keyes collecting two each. And Felix earned his second win of the season, striking out 13 Bear batters during 15 at bats with no hits in another solid outing on the mound. Keyes pitched two innings striking out for batters and giving up just two hits.
The Buckaroos are off for Spring Break and will resume play on Tuesday, March 18 when they travel to Blanding for a showdown with the rival San Juan Broncos.
