Head Coach Jeff Hunt: “Eli broke every freshman record for distance this year. Not only was he fourth at State Cross Country, he finished his freshman year with the highest finish for a freshman at Monticello High School in any distance event. He is also an extra-miler. When the day’s workout was presented, Eli would add an extra mile on the end, and sometimes two.
“Oftentimes at the end of races, Eli would ask one question: ‘How do I get better?’ As a coach, that might be the best question you ever hear. Eli is in with a cohort of freshmen from other schools that will help him develop friendly rivalries that will push all of them to succeed. With his determination and grit, I wouldn’t bet against him in the future.”
