Head Coach Barkley Christensen: “One of the big question marks we had in the offseason was our weak side outside linebacker position. Luckily, we had a really big, fast, and physical sophomore coming up named Max Stearns. Max started for us as an underclassman, but performed like he had been playing varsity for a couple years.
“Unfortunately, Max battled some injuries for a portion of the season and had to miss out on four games. He still finished with an impressive 62 tackles, 6 sacks, 20 Quarterback Hurries, and 1 interception in which he scored a touchdown on.
“Max was a force for us, blitzing off the edge and making opposing quarterbacks’ lives a nightmare in the pocket. Max was injured pretty badly in the semifinal game and had to miss the championship game. The most impressive thing about him was his attitude and the way he was there for his teammates and cheered them on. He is very deserving of this award and I can’t wait to see what he does over the next couple of years for us on both sides of the ball. Congratulations, Max!”
