San Juan boys golf team shoots best two rounds of the season to finish sixth in state tournament

The San Juan High School boys golf team put together their best performances of the season to finish strong at the 2026 2A Utah Boys Golf State Championships at the Meadow Brook Golf Course in Taylorsville Wednesday and Thursday, October 7-8.

The Broncos shot a 330 in their first round of the tournament on Wednesday, which at the time was their best round of the season. Then they turned around and bested that score on day two with a 327 to finish in sixth place as a team.

San Juan’s score on Thursday is 27 strokes lower than their season average of 352 strokes per round. The Broncos entered the tournament ranked 11th in the 2A standings and bested that by five places with their sixth-place result.

Standout freshman Korver Perkins led the team at the state tournament with his best round of the season. He shot a 4-over-par 76 on Wednesday, then one-upped himself with a 75 on Thursday.

His total of 151 strokes for the tournament placed him in a tie for 14th in the state for 2026 and was the third-best score among the freshmen at the tourney.

He finished just 12 strokes behind state champion McCoy Jones of Enterprise and his score of 75 was one stroke better than his previous career high.

Junior Andrew Moses had a great tournament as well, shooting an 81 on day one and a 79 to close out the tournament in a tie for 26th place on Thursday. His score set a new career best, beating his previous high score by eight strokes.

Freshman Ryan Wilcox carded scores of 85 on both days of the tournament to finish tied for 43rd in the state. Fellow freshman Mason Lyman came home with rounds of 88 on both days to round out the Broncos’ scoring positions in a tie for 47th place.

Two other San Juan boys played well at the state tournament but did not contribute to the team score in the final standings.

Sophomore Makson Perkins scored 89 on day one and 97 on day two to conclude the season in a tie for 57th place overall. Freshman Wyatt Ivins shot 90 and 100 to finish in 64th place.

Congratulations to all the players and first-year head coach Rob Wilcox on an outstanding 2026 season. It was the best season for San Juan High School boys golf in recent years.

With so many young players emerging on the Utah high school golf scene and performing so well for the Broncos this season, the future looks very bright for the team.
