Kent Udell ~ US Congress
Kent Stewart Udell Candidate profile
CD3 isn’t just a district to me, it is home.
It’s the valley where I was born and raised. It’s the rivers I’ve fished, rafted, and camped beside. It’s the lands I’ve hunted, the trails I’ve hiked, the slopes I have skied. It’s the community where I learned the value of hard work through blisters and sweat.
My roots here are generational.
I’m a descendent of Jacob Hamblin (the Buckskin Apostle), Levi Stewart (founder of Kanab), and also David King Udall, who wrote this challenge to his children 100 years ago:
You are living in a new age, with frontiers to explore, divides to cross, and deserts to subdue. Most important of all, you will have home and state problems to solve that will challenge the pioneer blood that runs in your veins.
That legacy isn’t just family history. It is a responsibility that I feel called to carry forth just as my cousin Stewart Udall, Secretary of the Interior, did.
So, what do I bring to this office?
I’m not a career politician, I’m a citizen patriot who has been called to serve. I’m an engineer, a scientist, and an educator. I have decades of experience working on energy issues from petroleum to mining to geothermal, to nuclear, solar and wind. I am a family man, a land owner, and an outdoorsman. I know hard work: I’ve hauled hay, worked on welfare farms, driven trucks, built homes and raised a family.
I’ve spent my life solving complex problems — the kind that require facts, integrity, and collaboration. I have worked with the Department of Defense, the Department of Energy, and NASA and interfaced with public groups concerned about toxic compounds in their land and water. It’s no surprise that I became an engineering ethics professor. I know how to work with people who don’t agree with each other as I usually can relate to both sides.
I know how to navigate complex systems. I know the difference between right and wrong.
And I know the difference between truth and noise. My B.S, meter is finely-tuned.
People say I am “a breath of fresh air”, “a man of integrity”, the “real deal”.
I simply believe that people deserve the respect of being listened to and told the truth.
I believe that’s the kind of leadership my constituents want in DC to get our Utah problems solved.
Our problems are significant. Health care is becoming unaffordable. Our politics are being bought by big money. Homes are unaffordable for young couples. The costs of food, energy, services, insurance and property taxes keep going up. Extreme weather – floods and fire – are threatening our water supply, our food supply, our communities and our ecosystems.
As a lifelong gun owner, I believe in 2nd amendment rights. I support secure borders and removing people who are in our country illegally but doing so in way that is not cruel and so expensive. I believe public lands should stay in public hands.
It’s time for a representative with courage, integrity, and practical sense and record of service to address these problems. A representative who honors his pledge “to a Nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” A representative who puts country over party.
A representative who serves his district, not campaign donors. A representative that actually shows up – I have held over 60 public in-person meetings across CD3 while my opponent, Rep. Maloy, has not held an in-person town hall since March of 2025! I know every vote is hard earned.
America has always been defined by the people who rise to meet great challenges. I believe people in this district want a Representative who believes that America’s best days are ahead of her, not behind her. A representative who is willing accept the challenges of keeping the American Dream alive. I will be that Representative.
