Apolonia “Polly” Langston

May 30, 1926 ~ February 16, 2009

Apolonia “Polly” Langston, precious wife, wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and friend, went home to her Heavenly Father on Monday, February 16, 2009.

Polly was born May 30, 1926 in Juanita CO, to Gregorio and Alfred Sanchez Herrera. She moved to Monticello UT in 1937 with her family.

Polly was born into a family of twelve. During the diphtheria epidemic, five siblings were lost. She was the fourth of the seven surviving children, including sisters Manuelita and Eudelia and brothers Pedro, Waldo Epifano and Johny.

Times were hard during the Depression and Polly moved out at 15. She and her girlfriend lived and worked in numerous jobs and locations.

On April 26, 1949 she married Jose Ignacio Garcia. Born to this union were Carmen and JoAnn. Joe passed away in October, 1951.

On July 13, 1957, Polly married the love of her life, Gene Thomas Langston. Paul, Donald, Patsy, Oleta Joyce, Robert, Thomas, and Jeannen completed their family. Gene passed away on July 12, 1979.

Polly loved her husband and children dearly and passionately. Her grandchildren, nieces and nephews were much beloved.

She enjoyed being around others and welcomed many into her home. Many who were new to the community and church quickly became her friends, both young and old. She will be missed by all.

Polly worked at various jobs and then began at San Juan Hospital, where she worked until her retirement. She enjoyed her work and was awarded employee of the month.

She was known for her meticulous housekeeping. She was famous among her family and friends for her pies and tortillas. Her hobbies were flowers, gardening and yard work.

She gained great enjoyment from decorated at Christmas time and received Empire Electric’s lighting contest three different years. One of her greatest dreams was realized when her two daughters and four grandchildren took her to the Price is Right game show and her grandson was picked to be a contestant, and won.

She was an example of stubbornness, or perhaps to be better worded as diligence through her work ethic, by sticking with her family through difficult times and to her religious convictions.

Polly is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two daughters, two sisters and two brothers.

She is survived by Carmen (Bill) Korsen of Gooding, ID; JoAnn (Mike) Crittenden of Monticello, UT; Paul (Thea) Langston of Monticello, UT; Donald Langston of Salt Lake City, UT; Patsy (Michael Schneidewind of Rico, CO; Robert (Macie) Langston of Minersville, UT; and Thomas Langston of Monticello, UT; 17 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; and two brothers, Waldo ( Erminda) Herrera and Johny Herrera of Salt Lake City, UT.
