Bruce Lyman Shumway January 19, 1935 ~ June 6, 2026

Bruce Lyman Shumway, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and faithful servant of God, passed peacefully from this life on June 6, 2026 at 6:06 p.m. He was 91 years old.
Born January 19, 1935 in Moab, Utah to Glen and Eva Shumway, Bruce was raised with a deep love of hard work, family, and faith.
He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Southwest Indian Mission, where he developed a lifelong love for the Navajo people.
He earned a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University and a master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Utah.
For 25 years he served as Director of Social Services for San Juan County, Utah and was named Utah’s Social Worker
of the Year in 1976.
He later served missions to Nicaragua, Iowa, and Cambodia alongside his beloved wife, Margaret.
Bruce married Margaret Shumway on January 30, 1960. Together they were blessed with eight children, 48 grandchildren, and 48 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, and his son Blake. He is survived by his children (spouses): the late Blake (Catherine), Wendell (Jennifer), Susan (the late Scott), Bradley, Preston (Michelle), Janae, Jordan (Stacia), and Shareen (Aaron); his siblings Geraldine (Smuggy) and Linda; and his beloved posterity.
Bruce lived every day in service to others — in the community, in his church, and in his home. He will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered.
