Clayton Reed Young

May 8, 1975 ~ October 8, 2015
Forever in our memories, Reed Young returned to his heavenly home on October 8, 2015, leaving this world filled with the love he shared.
He was born on May 8, 1975 to Steven Reed and Carmalee Young, the first child of three. He has a brother, Shelby Ryan Young, and a sister, Kimberly Brooke Young.
Reed came from large families of Youngs, Randolphs, and Pehrsons. Then, in September of 1997, he married his sweetheart Kimberly Dee Alexander, and became a part of the large families of the Alexanders and Jones of Nevada.
Reed and Kim were thrilled to add two little cowboys to their family, Clayton Race Young and Hunter Steven Young.
There was no doubt, Reed had many who felt he was a brother and a good friend, and who looked up to him as an example.
As a child, Reed was the happiest outside. That love of the outdoors continued throughout his life. Camping trips and outdoor skills accumulated in him becoming an Eagle Scout.
He was active in 4H, raising many steers. He loved to help his grandfather Clay with the farm and cows.
He followed his father around Young’s Machine, learning a lot about welding and machinery and working with his hands.
Reed’s education prepared him for many endeavors. He attended Monticello Elementary School and graduated from Monticello High School in 1993.
He attended Snow College in Ephraim, UT, graduating with an Associate of Science, then continued his education at Utah State in Logan, UT, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Education and a Utah Teaching Certificate in 1997. He later received a teaching certificate that was accepted in all states.
While in Logan, Reed also attended Bridgerland Applied Tech, graduating with a certificate in Diesel Mechanics. He certified as a Hydraulic Specialist.
As a teenager and young man, Reed worked at the Texaco station, for Legrand Johnson on a road crew, and as a gold miner in Alaska. When he graduated from college, he was employed at Dolores High School in Dove Creek and then at Young’s Machine Company in Monticello.
Reed was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and received the Aaronic and Melchizedek priesthood. His faith was dear to his heart, he knew the power of prayer, and he loved his Heavenly Father.
Reed became a man of many callings. Reed was a farmer and rancher, and loved working with animals and the land.
He was a Science/ Ag Ed / FFA teacher and loved working with his students, enriching their minds for future endeavors, receiving the Outstanding Teacher Award in 2002 and Outstanding FFA Advisor Award for 1998-2006.
He was a coach and encouraged and united the youth teams.
He was a hunter and taught his sons how to hunt and use a gun. He was so excited when he shot the biggest deer he had ever seen and an elk he watched for three years until he got that special license.
He was a welder, a mechanic, a hydraulic specialist, and a manufacturer. He helped design and build the new models of Young’s Machine equipment, improving and inventing products to compete in the modern world.
He was a business associate working with many mining businesses throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Panama and Columbia.
His greatest calling was within his family. He was a devoted husband, father, son and brother. He was a proud father and husband. He loved being with his sons and sweetheart. His everyday thought was for them first. He was devoted. They rocked his world.
His hobbies included activities with his family, hunting, hiking, biking, camping, fishing, boating, riding horses, and backpacking. He liked to make things… to give, to make something for someone to solve their problem, or to make life easier.
He liked to cook, especially in a dutch oven or on a grill, and he was quick to clean up the mess. He cleaned and organized, he was observant and sensitive, he was honest and hard working, he was compassionate. His heart was full. His love will live on through the wonderful memories we share.
Reed Young is survived by his devoted wife Kimberly; his young sons Race and Hunter; parents Steve and Carma Young; brother Ryan (Vanessa) Young; sister Kimberly Young; grandfather Clay (Shirley) Pehrson; grandfather Garold K. Young; parents-in-law Mike and Jan Kalafatic; father-in-law Bill Alexander, Sr; brothers-in-law Bill (Kim) Alexander, Chad (Elizabeth) Alexander, Ryan Alexander; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces.
He is preceded in death by his grandmother Juanita Pehrson; grandfather Harmon Randolph; grandmother Beth Young, uncle Frank Young; aunt and uncle Judy and Louie Schlichting; and a first cousin, Jeff Randolph.
Funeral services were held at the Monticello LDS Stake Center on Tuesday, October 13, 2015.
A “Young Buggie” with the casket and flowers led the memorial procession. Interment in the Monticello City Cemetery.

Through the days of grieving we have felt all of your arms around us, loving us, and holding us up at times. We have felt all of your prayers, which gives us strength now and for years to come.
Reed and I have always been so proud to call Monticello our home. This is an amazing community to raise our two boys in, which we consider one of our greatest blessings. We just want you all to know we love every one of you!
Thank you all for being so loving, caring, and nurturing through these tough times. It truly takes a village to raise a child, and we couldn’t have picked a better one. Again thank you, and we love you all!
