Clem Elson Washburn

Our beloved Clem Washburn, age 87, died in the early morning hours of November 10, 2010 at his home in Monticello, UT.
The fifth child of James D. and Sally McGee Washburn, he was born in St. George, UT on May 28, 1923.
He graduated from Jordan High School, where he earned the office of Student Body President his senior year. He took classes at Steven Henager Business College for a year and then joined the war effort by enlisting in the United States Merchant Marine.
On June 14, 1943 Clem married Betty Louise Davis. Less than a year later, he was gifted with a baby girl, Connie Louise.  The marriage was short lived, ending four years later.
Clem moved back to Utah and on July 31, 1951, married the woman destined to be his partner for time and all eternity, Donna Adams. This union produced six children: Stephanie (Reid) Chapman, Denise Taylor, Jill (Paul) Johnson, Laurie (Barry) Simpson, Lisa (Wade) Jackson and Brian (Claudia).
Clem focused his attention on growing a thriving ranching enterprise.
He was awarded an Excellence in Range Land Award from the Colorado Society for Range Management in 1997 and was awarded Conversationalist of the Year by the San Juan Soil Conservation District in 2004. 
Clem started out in the sheep business then turned to cattle. He prided himself in raising top quality beef. Clem was also a top notch gardener, an avid sportsman, an amateur geologist and an award winning golfer.
He had a fondness for acting and a passion for music and grew into an enthusiastic armchair sports activist and channel surfer extraordinar’.  In his later years, Clem spent a great deal of time contentedly serving at the Manti and Monticello temples.
Clem had a zealous enthusiasm for his family. His sense of humor and openly loving nature is legendary with his 33 grand children and 40 great grand children. He was adored by all and will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father, siblings Neta Washburn, Emily Redd, Mryl Hamilton, LaVar, Guy and Bruce and grandson Bret Jackson and grandson-in-law Kevin Jeffs.
He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and sister Beverly (Herb) Hinds.
