Donald Vernon Jack October 25, 1937 ~ May 20, 2025

Donald Vernon Jack, 87, of Blanding, UT, peacefully returned to his Heavenly Father on May 20, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Farmington, New Mexico, on October 25, 1937, to Vernon and Gladys Jack, Donald lived a life devoted to faith, family, and service to his community.
A respected leader and lifelong educator, Donald devoted over 3 decades to education in the San Juan School District as a teacher, principal, and twice as superintendent. His vision and dedication shaped the lives of generations and earned the admiration of students, parents, and colleagues alike. He held a Master’s Degree in Education and was later honored with a Doctorate for his extraordinary contributions.
Donald also served five years in the Army Reserves, embodying dedication in every chapter of his life. A devoted faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served a mission in New York and later, with his beloved wife Shirley, fulfilled four additional missions. Married in the Mesa, Arizona Temple on December 9, 1960, Donald and Shirley built a life centered on faith and love. His devotion was evident in his tireless service and quiet, unwavering testimony.
Donald found joy in life’s simple pleasures—riding his 4-wheeler and horse through the mountains he loved, gardening, and crafting walking sticks. But above all, he treasured time with his family. He was a steady, loving presence—a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose influence will be felt for generations.
Donald is survived by his eternal companion, Shirley, and their six children: Jeri (Gary) Callahan, Shawn (Stephanie) Jack, Dawnell (Blake) Collins, Tamera (Tral) Johnson, Tarra (Kapua) Maruyama, and Shantil (Jason) Shumway. He leaves behind a legacy of 39 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren, each a testament to the love and faith he shared.
Donald was a man of great integrity, wisdom, and kindness. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the countless lives he uplifted through his faith, service, and leadership.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 24, 2025, at noon at the Blanding Stake Center (88 West 800 North), with a viewing from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
In honoring Donald’s life, we celebrate a man who gave everything to the people and principles he loved—and whose memory will continue to inspire all who knew him.
