Geniveve was born in Moab, UT on June 4, 1941 to Ruth Palmer-Lyman, and Guy C. Palmer. She was raised in Blanding, UT and graduated from San Juan High School in 1959.
When Bobby Newberry met Gen, it was love at first sight. He was watching a softball game in Blanding and spotted her. Bobby offered to drive her home in his ‘56 Chevy Belair coupe. When she refused, he drove slow and chatted with her the whole way home. She was smitten.
Gen and Bob fell in love, married in 1959, then moved to California, where they raised their two children, Katheleen Tereo and Robert Newberry.
These two entrepreneurs started Golden Gate Crane in 1985 in San Lorenzo, CA. After ten successful years, they decided to move to Monticello, UT to retire. However, In 1998, they couldn’t help but to get back in the business world. Bob, Gen, and Bert Palmer bought Neilson Food King and started the grocery store Canyon Country Food.
She always had a strong passion for animals. She loved her dog Nika with all her heart.
Her favorite activities included spending time with her seven grandchildren, making cards with friend Jeannie and Tildy, making dolls and quilts with friend Shirley, and visiting with close friends and family. She also loved gardening vegetables, fruit, berries, and beautiful flowers.
Geniveve is survived by her husband Bobby Newberry (Monticello); siblings Bert Palmer and Maxine Christensen (Monticello), Virginia Carlson (Spanish Fork, UT); children Katheleen Tereo (San Ramon, CA) and Robert Newberry (Castro Valley, CA); seven grandchildren, and great-grandchild on the way.
