George James Miller, Jr.

October 22, 1957 ~ November 4, 2010
George James Miller, Jr. age 53, died peacefully November 4, 2010 at his home in Ogden, UT.
He was born October 22, 1957 in Alamosa, CO to George J. and Virginia Hyde Miller.
George lived with his family in Tres Piedras, NM until moving with his mother and siblings to Monticello, UT at age 13.
He graduated from Monticello High School with honors and attended Dixie College and Brigham Young University on music scholarships.
He completed a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Hiroshima, Japan and worked in New York City for Toyota before returning to Utah to attend the University of Utah.
In 1982, he married Terry Roberts in Salt Lake City, where their daughter was born in 1985.
While earning a Business Administration Degree from University of Phoenix, he was employed by the Salt Lake City office of Kelly Temporary Services. Kelly transferred him first to Topeka, KS and next to Kelly headquarters in Detroit, MI as a contract negotiator and regional manager.
Following their divorce, both he and Terry returned to Salt Lake City to raise their daughter. He left Kelly to work for CCG Office design, but was recruited by Kelly to manage their Salt Lake City office.
George had an outgoing, magnetic personality combined with intelligence, humor, and a passion for good times, especially with western music and dance, and he was a talented vocalist. Flower gardening was his reward for putting up with winter, always planting hundreds of tulips, zinnias and hollyhocks.
He described himself as having only two speeds for all endeavors: zero and 100. With his outstanding leadership skills (and irresistible smile), he elevated the sales of Kelly’s Salt Lake City operation to rank among the top ten cities in North America, becoming Kelly’s first Regional Vice President.
He treasured most of all the time he spent with the greatest love of his life, his daughter. He is survived by his partner of 20 years, William Balken, daughter Jesse (Jared) Nelson, step children Liz (Mike) Cross, and Eric Balken, siblings Nancy (Jimmy), Julie, Woody, and Bruce. Preceded in death by his mother and father.
George wished that his ashes rest near those of his mother in the Monticello cemetery, where there will be a graveside service at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 12, 2010.
Profound gratitude from George’s family goes to the superb CNS Hospice team in Ogden and his doctors at the University of Utah.
