Gerard Franklin Norton

March 12, 1941 ~ August 27, 2012
Gerard F. Norton took his final ‘short-cut’ home on August 27, 2012, after nearly 11 years fighting cancer.
Born March 12, 1941 to John Wesley and Thora B. Norton in Monticello, UT. He moved to Salt Lake City to attend college in 1959, where he found his sweetheart Malinda Young.
After serving his mission in Central America, they were married in the Logan Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on August 22, 1963.
In their 49 years together, they raised five children Amelee, Norman (Jennifer), Dennis (Cheryl), Y. Gerard (Marian) and John (Cinnamon) and were also blessed with 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He loved and truly lived the LDS faith and held many positions through the years. He took everything life threw at him in stride, and with a smile, doing whatever he had to for his family.
He worked 20 years with the Utah State Tax Commission and finally retired in February, 2008.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister Nadine; and brothers Joel and Thell.
Survived by his wife, and their children and families and sisters Velva Williams and Audra Anderson.
He loved mind-bending riddles and jokes, as well as the outdoors, camping, fishing, hiking sometimes called ‘fortune hunting’ and spending time with his family.
His smile and great attitude towards life will be missed by all who knew him.
Services will be held at Mt. View Mortuary 3115 East 7800 South Cottonwood Heights.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Utah Cancer Specialists.
