Harold Claud Young

January 4, 1930 ~ October 24, 2010
Harold Claud Young was born on January 4, 1930 in Monticello, UT to Claud Young and Inez Jones Young. After a long battle with Alzheimers, he returned to his Heavenly Father on October 24, 2010.
Harold followed his father to the farm at Carlisle and the ranch at Church Rock until his father’s death when Harold was only 15 yeas old.
He attended Cal Poly State College in California for one year. While living in California, he learned construction by working with his uncle.
As soon as he returned, he married his high school sweetheart, LaVern Richey, on July 20, 1949. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on September 10, 1959.
They had five children – Vicky Pfnister, Ronald (Jana) Young, Robert (Carolyn) Young, Audrey (Kerry) Young, and Curtis Young.
Harold was a skilled and industrious man. He was a building contractor and built many homes and buildings in the San Juan area, including the libraries in Monticello and Blanding, the post office, the Forest Service building, the federal building, and numerous subdivisions that still exist today.
He was also a farmer, rancher, deputy sheriff, and plumber. Harold took pride in his community and served as a city councilman and county commissioner.
He was a member of the LDS Church and held many callings, including High Priest group leader.
Harold loved his family and his grandchildren were his pride and joy. He loved playing games, family campouts, four wheeling, riding horses and being outdoors.
Harold worked hard, but he played hard with his family, too. He will be missed by them.
Harold is survived by his wife LaVern, four children, 16 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Claud and Inez Young; son and daughter-in-law Ronald and Jana Young; brother Jerry Young; and sister and brother-in-law Karma and Jack Jordan.
Funeral services were held in Monticello on October 29, 2010.

Thank you for all the food, flowers, visits and especially for your prayers and love for our mother. We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Rocky Mountain Care and Hospice for the tender loving care that they showed our father. They are truly angels!
