Harvey Charles Blankenagel

October 19, 1923 ~ June 19, 2014
Harvey was born October 19, 1923 at their farm just outside Springerville, AZ.
His father had a small herd of cattle that wintered near their home, but during the summer they went to the mountain pasture where it was cool and pleasant.
His sister Dorothy and brother John joined the family later, and they had a good family.
During the depression they sold out and moved to St. George, UT. Where their father became an employee of the Federal Government working for the Taylor grazing act, precursor to the BLM
When the Second World War broke out, Harvey enlisted in the Army and was assigned to the 138 engineering combat division company B. For his service he received a good conduct medal, Bronze Star with oak leaf clusters. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
He went to work for the springerville power company climbing power poles. Then, with the GI bill, he went to BYU and studied animal science. He graduated at the top of his class.
Joe Redd, looking for the best, offered Harvey a job on Rattle Snake Ranch operating a dairy cow operation. He accepted and moved down to the ranch.
Norma with a newborn Robert was brought down shortly later. Then came Becky Dianne, James Norman, John Arlo, and William August brought up the tail.
He was active in the community and instrumental in many improvements around La Sal.
He quit ranching in 1985. Built and sold a house, worked in Canada two years, was a trail guide/mule skinner on the North rim of the Grand Canyon working with tourist, and finally retired and lived in St. George till his parting.
He is preceeded in death by his son, John.
He is survived by his sister, Dorothy Kehmeier, and brother, John; and children Robert, Becky Johnson, Jim and Bill; and lots of grand and grea-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held for Harvey Charles Blankenagel at the La Sal LDS Chapel at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 26. Interment afterward.
