Ida Laverne Powell Tate December 6, 1937 ~ September 11, 2022

Ida Laverne Powell Tate was born in Farmington, NM on December 6, 1937. Her father was June Lawrence Powell and her mother was Virginia Aileen Bouse.
She is survived by her brother, Jerry Powell of Fawnskin, CA and step brother John Perry Inman of CA. Two sisters – Eleanor June and Meredith Kay (Susie) Powell – along with step brother Robert Inman, are deceased.
Laverne grew up in Bluff, UT where her father ran a trading post. LaVerne married Jackie (Jack) Lee Tate on July 12, 1956.
They had 12 children, with ten still living. They are Bryan Tate (Rowena), Mitchell Tate (Salina), Jed Tate (Patricia), Jackie Tate (Jeppson), Julie Tate, Rita Ashton (Ken), Jaycen Tate (Lisa), Thelma Yazzie (Stacey), Arthur Tate (stillborn), Monte Tate (Leigh), Joshua Tate (Cammy), and Jonathan Tate (Whitney).
The first six children were born in Monticello, UT and grew up in Blanding until December of 1968, when they moved to Eager, AZ.
Jack ran a logging business there until the Spring of 1979, when they moved back to Blanding.
LaVerne was a homemaker and wife first and foremost. She loved and taught her children the Gospel of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She taught 4H, and Cub scouts for many years.
Laverne later got involved in a quarterly magazine called The Blue Mountain Shadows with Janet Wilcox. She was the photo editor for many years and then became the managing editor. She did this until she got cancer.
She loved San Juan County and loved collecting pictures and stories about it.
LaVerne had many callings in the church and loved being a wife and mother.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, 51 grandchildren and 48 great grandchildren.
Her husband Jack is deceased, along with children Rita and Arthur.
The family loves their mother and will greatly miss her. She is happily reunited with her husband and two children.
May she rest in peace.
