JoAnne Redd Peterson May 6, 1950 ~ January 26, 2026

JoAnne Redd Peterson passed away January 26, 2026 surrounded by her family. She lived a life rooted in kindness and generosity, offering her love and care freely and quietly never seeking recognition. To know her was to feel welcomed, comforted and deeply loved.
JoAnne was born in Monticello, UT on May 6, 1950 to Daryle and Pearl Redd. She allowed her faith to carry her through her life, to guide the way she loved others and move through the world.
Education was an important part of her life. Her collegiate schooling took her to Dixie College, Utah State University and Brigham Young University, from which she graduated.
While at Dixie College she was a part of a girls flag football team. She was named the MVP at a tournament while there.
JoAnne had a career as a high school business teacher, teaching in Rockland and Pocatello, ID, and in Heber City, Monticello, Tropic and Wayne County, UT. She also taught at the Salt Lake Community College for a few years. Her motto was to always give her very best with compassion and integrity.
She coached girls sports in many of the schools where she taught. In Rockland, her volleyball team took the championship.
JoAnne also worked for many years at Franklin Covey and Western Governors University in Salt Lake City, UT in data entry.
She is a true country girl and loved working on the farm with her father and brother. Some of her happiest times were when she was riding horses, driving tractors and putting up and smelling fresh cut hay. She was also a great hand when driving the cattle to new pastures.
She loved going on evening walks with her dogs Jack and Jill. She was a dog lover and had many dogs throughout her life.
One of her greatest joys was spent on the family land in Dry Valley, especially at Easter time when family and friends would gather for the annual reunion. These days were filled with shared meals, laughter, stories, egg rolling, repelling, and the quiet beauty of being together.
In Dry Valley, she also enjoyed watching the sunrise on top of the red rocks with her granddaughters. She loved being a grandmother and always cherished every moment she could with her grandchildren.
JoAnne was an avid deer hunter and the “picnic tree” in Monticello was the choice spot. She treasured the adventure as well as the time spent, side by side, with her children walking, talking, waiting and making memories that would last forever.
JoAnne did a lot of traveling to other countries and places during her summer breaks from teaching. She and her favorite traveling companion, Judy Barton, explored and experienced many good times together.
JoAnne was married to Edwin Peterson in the Salt Lake City Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on June 7, 1983. Two wonderful children were born to this union.
JoAnne served in many positions in the church. Her favorite was in the Primary. She also served as an ordinance worker in several temples throughout her life.
She is survived by her beloved children Jason (Tissiana) Peterson, Brooke (Matthew) King, step sons and daughters Nicole (P.J.) Thornton, Tami Brown, Dean (Jeanna) Peterson, Amy (Robert) Venter, Shaun (Lisa) Peterson, and Cory Peterson, brother Lemuel Hardison (Julia) Redd IV, sister Merlene Lovejoy, and grandchildren, great grandchildren and many extended family members and friends whose lives were touched by her gentle spirit.
She is preceded in death by her parents Daryle and Pearl Redd, spouse Edwin Peterson, and sisters Tonya and Dorothy Redd.
Though her physical presence is gone, her love remains—in the quiet mornings, the open landscapes she adored, the family traditions she held close, and the faith she lived by every day.
A celebration of JoAnne’s life will be held at 11:30 am (viewing) and 1 pm (funeral) on February 6 at the LDS chapel at 1366 Canyon Road in Lake Point, UT.
Graveside services will take place at 3 pm on the following day, Saturday, February 7 at the Monticello City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor her memory by spending time with those you love, watching a sunrise, or offering kindness to someone in need—just as she always did.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
