Julius N. (Jay) Harvey

Julius N. (Jay) Harvey, age 84, passed away November 11, 2015 at the La Villa Grande Nursing Home due to Parkinsons disease. Jay was born August 11, 1931 in Mesa, AZ to Julius and Louise Harvey. They moved to Horsehead, San Juan County in 1933, where Jay resided most of his life.
He served for four years, from 1951 to 1955, in the US Navy during the Korean War. He returned home in August, 1955 and married Joan Richardson on November 12, 1955 in the Eastland LDS Chapel. Their union was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple in November, 1958.
He worked at the mill in Monticello, as a mechanic for San Juan County and Dove Creek Implement, farmed, worked at the potash mine, and owned and operated a mail route for 30 years before retiring. In all the different phases of his life, he was mostly a farmer at heart.
Jay is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served faithfully until his health made service impossible.
Jay is preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Brown, brothers-in-law Paul Pace, Dick Murray, Dale Fuller and Wayne Brown.
He is survived by Joan, his wife of 60 years, sons Kenneth Jay (Sara) Harvey of Eastland, Donald (Ruby) Lee Harvey of Hurricane, UT, Eugene Leroy (Ann) Harvey of Grand Junction, CO, Cole Dale (Dixie) Harvey of Casa Grande, AZ; daughters Julia (Brian) Harris of San Tan Valley, AZ, and Virginia (John) Feher of Mancos, CO; sisters Jaqueline (Dale) Fuller, Bessie (Leonard) Howe, Verdell (Jim) Call, Sharon (Robert) Riley, Sandra (William) Bacon and Lynne (Butch) Robinson; and brothers James (Joyce) Harvey and Melvin (Karen) Harvey.
He has 39 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren, with two more to join the family in January.
Funeral services were held in the Eastland Chapel at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 21. Interment followed in the Mountain View Cemetery.
