Lupita was born on October 7, 1933 to parents Joseph P Gatewood and Nora James in Tsaile, AZ.  She grew up in Tsaile, AZ with five of her brothers and sisters.

She met the love of her life, Harlin, at a dance. He saw her dance, and it was love at first sight.

She was a loving, wonderful wife and mother.  Together they raised their five children in Mexican Hat.

She was a teacher’s aide and school bus driver for 30 years for the San Juan School District.

Years after retirement, people recognized her and told her how much they loved her in the classroom and on the school bus.

She was a strong and kind woman.  She had a great impact on all who knew her, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Her family and friends will always remember how fun she was.  She loved to laugh and enjoyed time with her family.  In her final days, she enjoyed playing “nerf wars” with her grandson, James, and great-grandson, Gabriel.

A funeral was held Saturday, February 15 in Blanding.
