Mary Louise Madsen Redd

Our loving mother, Mary Lou Redd, age 93, passed away peacefully the morning of June 17, 2015.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandma, great grandma, sister, and friend. An inspiration to all.
Mary Lou was born on September 27, 1921 in Salt Lake City, UT to Clarence LeRoy Madsen and Mary Louise Taylor. She grew up as a typical “city” girl in Ogden, UT.
She loved socializing with friends, dancing and listening to music, and going to the movies.
After graduating from Ogden High School, she went on to get her degree from Weber Junior College. In 1947, she attended Brigham Young University, where she met the man of her dreams—Wyman Hardison Redd.
She married her “Y” man on June 30, 1948 in the Salt Lake Temple, where they were sealed for time and all eternity.
They settled in the beautiful rural town of Monticello, Utah, where they raised seven children.
Mary Lou was dedicated to her family and her husband. She was a natural caregiver with a big heart and a beautiful smile.
Mary Lou and Wyman shared nearly 62 wonderful years together before he passed away in 2010. We take great comfort in knowing that “Daddy” was waiting to welcome her on the other side.
Mary Lou was famous for sending all her grandchildren “fat” birthday cards filled with sweet treats and, of course, an original poem. She was a wonderful cook, loved chocolate, never left the house without lipstick on, and always enjoyed visiting.
Mary Lou was an active, faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served graciously, always caring and willing to help others. One of the highlights of her life was serving a mission with her husband in Calgary, Canada.
She is survived by her seven children, Julie Ann Baird, Stephen (Sue) Redd, Christine (Steve) Heap, Carolee (Paul) Curtis, Gary (Alice) Redd, Suzanne (Brian) Rau, and Becky (Richard) Lee, 34 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, and sister Barbara Dowd.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Ruth Ogilvie, sister Patricia Neff, brother Roy Madsen and great- granddaughter Harley Jade Browning.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 22, 2015 at the Monticello LDS Stake Center, 165 South Main Street. A viewing was held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the service. Interment at the Monticello City Cemetery.
The family extends their heart-felt thanks to those who provided Mary Lou’s care and comfort over the last few years.
