Richard Wilton Meyer, Jr.

July 7, 1931 ~ December 17, 2007

Richard W. Meyer Jr. was born July 7, 1931, in Burbank, California to Francis and Richard Wilton Meyer Sr.

He spent his childhood and early teenage years in Helper and Portland, Oregon. The family then returned to California where he lived in Long Beach, California and graduated from Wilson High School.

After high school he spent four years in the U.S Air Force, stationed mostly in Colorado Springs. He then attended Long Beach State College and graduated with a B.A in education. He then taught school while pursuing his Masters Degree in Education.

Dick then became principal of several elementary schools in the Garden Grove School System and retired from the district at age 60.

Early on, he was traveling thru this area, fell in love with it and purchased property east of town. He continued to purchase property and farm wheat.

He eventually built the KOA Campground and upon retirement the MD Cookhouse, of which he was very proud.

Richard was active in several groups in town always trying to promote the area he loved.

Some of the groups include the Lion’s Club (past president), City Council, Chamber of Commerce (past president) and Economic Development Committees.

Surviving Richard are his wife Ann, son Christopher Meyer and wife Kate, Terri Walter and husband George, Brad Pearce stepson, Kim Walker stepdaughter and four grandchildren Brandon Lambert, Thomas Meyer, Claire Meyer and Sierra Irick.

He is also survived by three brothers Carl Meyer, (Judy) Bill Meyer, Jim Crawford (Stephanie) and a sister Carol Mundell (George) and several nieces and nephews and many cousins.

The family of Richard Meyer wish to thank everyone for their kind and helpfulness to us during his sudden illness and death. We appreciate so much the visits, phone calls, flowers, food and your thoughts and prayers during this time.

A special thank you to San Juan Hospital and the doctors, nurses, aides, kitchen help and maintenance people. We have never been treated so well. And a very special thank you to Paul Barr for taking such good care of me and never missing a day. What a great place to live.
