Robert "Bob" Myers November 28, 1945 ~ April 21, 2024
Lord Robert Vernon Myers, II, or simply, “Bob,” passed away on 21 April 2024, after battling cancer and then dementia and Alzheimer’s.
His devoted companion of 32 years, Annette Myers, was by his side until his last breath. Prior to moving into an acute facility, Bob resided with Annette in La Sal, UT, where they lived for 16 years.
An adventurous man of God, Bob’s legacy began at 19, transporting hospital patients. He was promoted to Director of Radiology and designed and built a Nuclear Med department.
After the loss of his son Matthew, Bob divorced and moved. He never got over leaving his daughter Andrea and son Robert.
He moved his second wife, son Zachary, and daughter Meghan to West Linn, OR where he was Director of Radiology at Oregon Health Sciences University.
Later, as University of Washington’s Director of Radiology, he was a liaison between the radiologists, teaching physicians, and UW administration. He expanded the department, and introduced Nuclear Medicine and other services.
To support his growing family, including infant Jonathan, he received an MBA with honors, while working an additional emergency room graveyard shift, and as a registered paramedic/EMT.
His success put Bob in the sights of a number of hospitals in California, Idaho, and other states to assess operations, floor plans, patient flow, equipment, and financials to recommend improvements. He designed the enlargement of several hospitals.
He built the largest Imaging Center in Oregon in Eugene, OR, where he accomplished the impossible: operating in the “black” in under four months.
Later, Bob helped a struggling imaging center in Bellevue, WA. He and his third wife Annette assisted the small imaging center out of bankruptcy. It grew into a multi-state radiology enterprise.
Annette hired her husband as CEO of her successful medical billing company. With Bob’s medical and administrative expertise, the small company became the recommended medical billing company of nationally recognized accounting firms.
The company adopted patient protection and confidentiality years before HIPAA was mandated. Later, when the world turned to electronic billing claims, Bob designed “claims scrubbing” software to screen data points for accuracy.
When the business burnt to the ground over a Labor Day weekend, the operation was up and running the next business day. This recovery is due in part to Bob’s insistence that every keystroke by 42 employees be backed up to three offsite locations.
Shy, Bob became outspoken and opinionated later in life. However, he rarely discussed the impact he made professionally or his heroic deeds.
An accomplished alpinist, he saved others from death in icy blizzards at risk of his own life. As UW Fleet Captain, he saved lives from capsized vessels.
Legendary football coach Dan Devine personally recruited Bob as a wide receiver. He was a semi-pro baseball player. An accomplished golfer, he played with Arnold Palmer, Johnny Miller, and other PGA and LPGA golfers.
Bob’s love of music placed him as first chair French horn in the orchestra, and as a master fisherman, he caught fish virtually no one else could.
An efficient marksman, his remarkable accuracy shooting was praised by French Legionaries, Black Op Special Forces, and Green Berets.
As a hunter, Bob won every blue rock shooting contest he entered. He downed a massive black bear running directly at him with one shot.
Bob was a beloved off-road extreme trail leader and an incredible skier; sharing his passion with his wife Annette and children.
Bob could fix just about anything from farm equipment, vehicles and off-road jeeps to boats, electrical, construction, and a broken finger..
He was a passionate gardener and farmer.
Despite suffering from PTSD due to excessive abuse as a child, he overcame traumas and mental challenges to contribute to society and his communities.
In the face of his successful career and personal accomplishments, he put his children before everything and anyone else.
Bob’s legacy lives on through Annette – his true love, children, and grandchildren. You are missed.
