Robert Earl “Bob” Murrish

Graveside services for longtime Cortez resident Robert Earl “Bob” Murrish were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 13 at Cortez Cemetery. Bishop Spencer Smith will conduct.

Bob was born on January 31, 1922 in Twin Falls, ID, the son of Earl and Muriel Esther (Davis) Murrish. He passed away on Monday, March 8, 2010 at his residence at the age of 88.

In 1941 Bob joined the U.S. Navy serving his country proudly during World War II. Well decorated, Bob received numerous medals for his service; seven of which were Bronze Stars.

While stationed in Dearborn, MI, Bob attended the Henry Ford College and in three months time he accomplished a four year course, earning himself a degree.

On October 7, 1946 in Las Vegas, NV, Bob married Elsie Crump.

He was largely involved in Boy Scouts and was a Scout Master for eight years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping and was an avid reader.

A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Bob served at the Manti Temple for five years and subsequently two and a half years at the Monticello Temple.

Surviving Bob are his wife of 63 years, Elsie Murrish of Cortez; his children, Ada McVey of Cortez, Connie Adams of Yucaipa, CA, Sidney Murrish (Elizabeth) of Ontario, CA, Howard Murrish (Rhonda) of Ontario, Calif., Wesley Murrish (Nancy) of Fair Oaks, CA, Wanda McCoy (Weslie) of Phoenix, AZ; and Kelley Stephenson (Tom) of Bayfield, CO; 26 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren; and by his siblings, Evertt Murrish (Fern) of Spokane, WA, and Helen Larsen of Salt Lake City, UT.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents; and by his brother, John “Jack” Murrish.
