Sandra (Sandy) Wood Strom September 13, 1972 ~ January 15, 2022

Sandra (Sandy) Nicole Wood (Strom) was born to Ed and Julie Wood in Monticello, UT on September 13, 1972. She was the apple of her daddy’s and her momma’s baby girl.
She joined older sisters Cyndi and Kimm, growing up in Monticello where she was a cheerleader at Monticello High School. She stayed in San Juan County all her life.
Sandy accepted Jesus into her heart as her Lord and Savior and was she was baptized at the Baptist Church.
She will be remembered for her beautiful smile and eyes. She had kindness for strangers and neighbors.
Sandy married Chuck Howell in 1994 and from this union was born twins Heather and Hailey. Sandy loved her girls and the grandchildren they gave her, Raylee, Easton, and Lucas.
Sandy learned early on in life that it was much better to help Dad out in the shop rather than in the house doing chores. She spent hours next to him working with wood or metal.
From her mom, she learned to decorate cakes. She became a talented artist, making beautiful naturalistic pieces.
Sandy had a love for San Juan County and explored almost every mile, usually on foot hiking with Aubrey Patterson whom she loved dearly.
Sandy had a special place in her heart for Kody Sommerville, with whom she spent many hours hiking, and Brad Woodard, who she referred to as “handy as pocket” for all the time he spent keeping things running for her.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents Hobert and Nellie Wood and Harley and Norma Cressler, brother-in-law Jim Lacy, father Edward Wood, and nephew Colton Eldredge.
Left to grieve are her daughters Heather (Cody) Hamilton and Haliey Battle, grandchildren Raylee and Easton Hamilton, Lucas Battle, mother Julie (Bob) Claycomb, sisters Cynthia (Brad) Eldredge and Kimberley Lacy, nephew Casen Eldredge, nieces Berlin (Trevor) Robertson, Ryan (Cody) Reynolds, and Mattea Lacy. Many other extended family members will also miss her.
Funeral services were on January 22, 2022, at the Monticello Baptist Church. Sandy was laid to rest in her daddy’s arms at the Summit Ridge Cemetery in Dolores, CO.
Those who knew Sandy well knew she suffered from severe depression and had fought battles we really never could understand and knew fully how hard she fought them.
If we can take away anything at all from this tremendous loss, it is to be kind to one another always.
So please hug your loved ones and friends a little tighter today. You just never know the internal struggles someone is having behind that smile on their face.
Struggles that might very well take them to a dark place where they just can’t see that tomorrow’s sunrise might bring them up and out the darkness.
