Troy Jay Butler

June 19, 1962 ~ January 10, 2021

Troy Jay Butler, born June 19, 1962 in Monticello, UT to Ronald (Pat) and Marva Butler, passed away January 10, 2021 at the age of 58.

Troy was raised in Monticello where he attended school and spent many hours working with his father and older brother on the farm or drilling wells. Troy loved to read as a child and would often sneak out of class in fifth grade with Sanford Randall to read Louis Lamour books in the hallway.

After graduating from Monticello High School, he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Oslo, Norway.

Troy spent most of his working years as a deputy for the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office where he made many lifelong friends and touched the lives of many others. While working for the sheriff’s office, Troy was able to pursue his dream of becoming a pilot.

After his time working for the county, he was able to live his dream full time as a pilot and flew for several companies and individuals over the years.

Troy was married to Lorie Ewart, his first wife on February 18, 1984 and together they had seven children whom he loved dearly.

Troy and Rachel Boisselle became reacquainted and after a short courtship, were married on April 17, 2020.

Troy loved to have fun and spent much of his free time with friends and family riding motorcycles and snowmobiles, flying, mountain biking, camping, playing games, and working on projects.

Troy is survived by his wife, Rachel Butler; his mother, Marva Butler; his sisters, Patricia (Jim) Camberlango and Pauline (Matt) Peterson; his brother Randy (Laura) Butler; his children, Ronald (Catharine) Butler, Robert (Kari) Butler, Travis (Meranda) Butler, Kalob (Shelby) Butler, Lucien (Kim) Butler, Katie (Aaron) Lawley, and Julie (Jason) Iler; and 23 grandchildren.

Services are Monday, January 18 at 11 a.m. at the Monticello LDS Stake Center, 169 South Main. Services will be live streamed at pictureitpalmer.com . Interment at the Monticello Cemetery

He is preceded in death by his sister, JulieAnn Butler, and his father, Ronald (Pat) Butler.
