Ula Black Hunt Stevens

April 3, 1919 ~ April 22, 2008

On April 22, 2008 our beautiful mother (89) was reunited with those she loved who had passed on before. She was born to Edson and Adelaide Oliver Black on April 3, 1919 in Blanding, UT. She was delighted to be the daughter of the flour miller. She had a happy childhood and loved her siblings dearly.

She fell head-over-heels in love at first sight with Benjamin Hunt. They married the day after her high school graduation on May 22, 1937. They had six children before he died on June 6, 1946. She married Horace A. Stevens on October 15, 1950 and they had three children together

Ula was an accomplished seamstress and cake decorator. She had a high work ethic and always gave her best effort to whatever she did.

Despite the difficult trials she encountered in her life, she retained a sense of humor and remained steadfast in her faith. After Horace’s death, Ula made her home with her oldest daughter, Virginia and the two of them enjoyed many good times together.

When Ula suffered a stroke, Virginia became a devoted full-time caregiver.

In 2007, Ula was moved to Farmington, NM, where Lorraine and Bob and family could assist with her care. The selfless service they rendered to will forever stand as a monument to their great love. The rest of the family thank our dear sisters for enriching this great lady’s life as she endured to the end.

Ula is survived by sister LaVeda Mahon of Monticello; sisters-in-law Lela Black, Clessa Black, and Mary Black of Blanding; Helen (Wes) Woods, Salt Lake; Ilene Hurst, Provo; sons Curtis (Aleda) Hunt, Monticello, Shaye (Michelle) Stevens, Austin, TX; daughters Virginia Hunt, Canyon Lake, TX, Marlene (Clay) Cummings, Fillmore, Lorraine (Bob) James, Farmington, NM, Loretta (Abe) Powell, Heber City, Rhea (Richard) Jeppson, Vero Beach, FL and April (Chris) Stevens-Dumas, Austin, TX. She is also survived by huge posterity of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by parents, husbands, son Leo Bruce Hunt; brothers Anthon, Burnhard, Albert, Leo and Oley; sisters Verna and Hilda; also three grandchildren.

Funeral services were April 26, 2008 in Blanding. Interred in Blanding Cemetery.

Thanks to all who assisted in the funeral arrangements, attended the funeral, sent flowers, and offered condolences.

As one door closes, another one opens. May you find joy in this next step in your eternal progression, Mother. We love you and will miss you. God be with you ‘till we meet again.
