Venice Nielson Lyman

December 6, 1915 ~ April 4, 2011
Venice Nielson Lyman returned to her Heavenly Father on April 4, 2011 at age 95.  She lived a full life and gave all she had to her family, friends and community.  She will be missed and remembered with love and admiration.
Venice was born December 6, 1915 as the first child of Joseph Edward Nielson and Ida Palmer.  On her father’s side she was a descendent of Bishop Jens Nielson who came with the Hole in the Rock group to settle San Juan County.  On her mother’s side she was descended from Mormon pioneers who fled the colony in Juarez, Mexico during the revolution. 
Venice was proud of her pioneer heritage and shared a deep love of San Juan County.  She loved her parents very much and helped take care of her widowed mother in her later years. 
Venice had two brothers, Rex and DeReese, and four sisters, Yvonne, Erma, Peggy and Zola.  She and Yvonne were especially close and they played the ukulele and sang together at weddings and other events while growing up.
Venice married her high school sweetheart, Barton Finlinson Lyman, on May 5, 1935.  They built a beautiful family legacy together throughout their marriage of 48 years until 1983 when Bart passed away from a sudden illness. 
They were blessed with eight children: Barta Guymon, Edward (Judy) Lyman, Jay Lyman, Jessie (John) Baylor, Ramona (Boyd) Bradford, Michael (Joanne) Lyman, Jini (Carlos) Roby and John (Michele) Lyman.  Venice and Bart adopted Jini at age 14 from an orphanage in Korea and also fostered Eva Abe for many years.  Her love knew no bounds.
As a mother, Venice was devoted to her children. Her life revolved around taking care of them, guiding them and loving them.  She was a master cook, organizer, gardener, canner, quilter and letter writer. 
She served her family with all the love of her heart and her amazing talents. Venice leaves behind a large posterity all of whom love her as the matriarch of the family.
Venice also found time for friends and neighbors who needed her listening ear and caring heart.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  She served in every auxiliary of the church including in the presidency of the Stake Relief Society.  Venice reached out to the sisters in the ward and stake and set an example of compassion, faith and thrift.
Venice will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services were held April 9, 2011 in Blanding, UT.  Interment in Blanding City Cemetery.
