Verla Mikkelsen Marx
October 19, 1914 ~ February 27, 2017
Verla Mikkelsen Marx, who turned 102 on October 19, 2016, returned home to Heavenly Father early on Monday, February 27, 2017.
Verla was the tenth child of Mickel Anton and Mary Ann Jensen Mikkelsen of Fountain Green, UT.
She was married to Wesley Phillip Marx (deceased August 17, 1970) on July 27, 1933, in Manti, UT. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints April 14, 1964.
Verla served her Heavenly Father in many capacities in the Church—as a teacher and president of the Primary, Relief Society, and Young Women’s organizations. She served a mission in Beloit, WI, in the 1970s.
She was employed by the Moroni Turkey plant for several years after the death of her husband. A few years later, she worked as head cook at the Sanpete Valley Hospital in Mt Pleasant, where her excellent meals were a treat not only to the patients, but also to the doctors.
Verla is survived by her five children, 19 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
Her children are Anna La Raine (J. Whitney) Redd of Monticello, UT; Gordon Wesley (Loretta Mae Smith) Marx of Yakima, WA; Helen Irene Sorensen of Brenda, AZ; Farrel Eugene (Elizabeth Albarado) Marx, and Robert Andy (“Kay” Fredricksen) Marx, all of Mount Pleasant, UT.
Funeral Services were held Saturday, March 4 in the Mt Pleasant Second-Third Ward Chapel.
