Warren “Buddy” J. Jones

Warren “Buddy” J. Jones, resident of Orem, UT, age 72, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on September 15, 2014 after a stalwart fight against cancer.
Warren was born April 21, 1942 in Huntington, UT to Warren E. and Elva Hardy Jones.
In his youth he attended Spring Glen Elementary, Helper Junior High, and Monticello High School, where he served as student body president. He continued his education at Brigham Young University and, later, the University of Florida where he received a Master’s Degree of Architecture.
While at Brigham Young University, he met his sweetheart at a school dance, Brenda Solomon, from Winter Garden, FL; it was her first night on campus. They were married and sealed in the Salt Lake City, UT Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, August 23, 1965.
Warren and Brenda started their family of seven children while at school in Florida. The last four of their children were born after they moved back to Utah.
Warren and Brenda enjoyed many wonderful years together. They enjoyed traveling together, spending time with their children and grandchildren, and many home improvement projects to keep them busy after he retired from BYU. Recently, they joyously celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary.
Warren was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; his life of church service began with an LDS mission to the North Central States in October, 1961 to November, 1963. His mission service took him to Montana, Wyoming, North and South Dakota.
Later in life, Warren and Brenda served in the Mount Timpanogos, UT temple as temple workers for seven consecutive years until they were called to serve as Church Service Missionaries in the Family History Center in Orem, UT and served for two years.
Warren also served as Bishop, Ward Clerk, Stake Clerk, Stake Executive Secretary and many other callings including as a valiant Home Teacher.
In 1976, Warren began a life-long career with Brigham Young University, where he was an Architect for many years, retiring as Director of Facilities Planning in 2008.
In 1985 he received a special service award for assisting in the U.S. premiere presentation of Ramses II, Egyptian Artifact Exhibit at BYU.
In 1990 Warren was awarded the “Ben E Lewis Management Award”. In 2001 he was presented a commemorative brick from the Provo City Library for his service on the Library Construction Oversight Committee.
In December, 2008, as he approached retirement, he received the “Visionary Service Award” from LDS Philanthropies.
In the 30 years he worked for BYU, Warren had the opportunity to give his special attention and expertise to every building on campus, and many more throughout the community.
Warren cherished his time in the outdoors, he enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting with his family. His favorite fishing spot was anywhere his fishing buddy Michelle was at.
Warren was always building and creating masterpieces and making the world a better place, woodworking was a love of his. There is evidence of these masterpieces throughout his and his children’s homes.
He enjoyed painting and recently painted a watercolor painting for each of his children. He matted and built the frames for each masterpiece and gave them as a special gift at Christmas time.
Warren is survived by his eternal companion and spouse, Brenda Louise Solomon Jones; and six of his seven children, Taunya (Darren) Butler, Jason (SunHwa) Jones, Michelle Jones, Laura (J.P.) Salisbury, Trisha (Brandon) Weekes, and Julie (fiancé Charlie Loucks) Jones.
His legacy includes 20 grandchildren: Jordan (Ruthy), Keaton (Ruth), Shally, Loagan, Savana, and Trevon Butler; Rachel, Bryce and Benjamin Jones; Kaylan (Thomas), Kylieah (Bronson), Madden, and Hayden Salisbury; Treela, Berkley, Sabina and Merica Weekes; Weston, Braden Tanner, Cherry Jones, Chaz, Spencer and Alexandra Loucks, and 4 great-grandchildren: Shanté, Layla and Kaia Butler and Soleil Butler.
He is preceded in death by his parents and oldest son, Eric David Jones.
Funeral Services were held on Monday, September 22 in Orem, UT. Interment in the Orem City Cemetery.
