William C. (Bill) Nielson

April 15, 1940 ~ April 30, 2013
William C. (Bill) Nielson was born April 15, 1940 in Moab, UT to Milton C. and Estella Nielson. Bill is their third child. He passed away on April 30, 2013 at the age of 73 in Las Vegas, NV.
Bill spent his early years on farms at Carlisle then Dry Valley in San Juan County.
He attended school in Monticello where he participated in sports. He developed a real proficiency for operating heavy equipment while working with his father during his late teens.
Bill was an army veteran where he increased his talent in heavy equipment operation. He was very good at building roads with caterpillars, graders or whatever was needed.
He married the love of his life, Donna Hasty, in Las Vegas, NV on November 1, 1966. From this union came two children, Dustin in 1968 and Brittany in 1976.
He worked in many places in Utah, Colorado and Arizona mining, drilling and building roads. He operated a large drill creating ventilation draft holes for Union Carbide before joining his Father to reopen the Mi Vida Uranium mine near Lisbon Valley, where he developed a successful mining operation.
After the price of uranium closed down most uranium mines, he started mining gold in Arizona then later moved to Nevada and mined gold until he retired.
Bill had a series of health issues during the past few years, but remained strong and positive to the very end.
He is survived by his wife Donna, children Dustin (Cindy) and Brittany (Mario); granddaughters Haylee Dawn and Charlie Quinn and grandsons Jonnie, Jessie and Jared.
He also is survived by sisters Kathryn Wilson of Monticello and Christine Straughn of West Valley, UT; and brothers Tom (Alliene) of Tucson, AZ, Steve (Mary) of Monticello, Keith (Jerri) of Provo, UT, Howard (Sandie) of Cambry, OR, Mark (Pam) of Kaysville, UT; and Paul (Stacy) of Bakersfield, CA.
