New McElmo Creek Bridge open to traffic
Work continues on the massive $152 million road project on Highways 162 and 262.
On Highway 162, paving is completed between Aneth and the Colorado Border, while the Bluff to Montezuma Creek leg is still undergoing shoulder widening before travel lane paving resumes.
In Montezuma Creek, paving is about to get underway in front of the schools and within the roundabout. Meanwhile, plan on the full pavement reconstruct to the east side of Aneth to continue for the next several months. The goal is to complete the bulk of the paving work in 2025!
Highway 262 is about 90 percent complete, with only a few miles remaining nearing Montezuma Creek.
Motorists are driving across the new fully operational McElmo Creek Bridge on Highway 162. Construction continues on approaches to both sides for the next two months.
Due to the exceptionally dry weather, the Fish and Wildlife Service recently approved realigning the creek bed directly under the bridge’s centerline to enhance water flow.
The massive Montezuma Creek roundabout is currently outlined by a ring of concrete curbing. It is expected to be completed in September, with fresh pavement filling the circular travel lane.
By mid-September, a new sidewalk will be installed on the perimeter of the roundabout.
