Ruthellen Pollan Memorial Award

Art major John V. Porter, a USU Eastern Blanding student, was named 2014-15 recipient of the Ruthellen Pollan Memorial Award.  John produced a plethora of professional quality oil paintings and charcoal drawings over the past school year while studying under art instructor Anthony Lott. You can see Porter’s artwork at his Facebook page.
Tim Lloyd, art teacher at Albert R. Lyman Middle School, was the juror this year.
Honorable Mention is awarded to Seth Laughter and Colleen Raisor.
An artist who had taught painting in Florida and New York, Ruthellen Pollan experienced car trouble while driving through Blanding.  The town and campus captured her heart and she soon “through sheer force of will” became the first full-time art teacher at the community college, establishing an art program largely on her own.  Her life was cut short by cancer but her spirit lives on in her paintings displayed around campus and her influence is still felt by current art students.
