The Lisbon Valley Copper Mine is set to reopen after closing in late 2024.
The mine was bought by Mariana Minerals who has partnered with Lisbon Valley Mining Company to shape the reopening of the mine.
According to a release from Mariana, the two organizations have been partnering to “develop and deploy advanced software and autonomous systems that will overcome past operational challenges and expand copper output.”
Mariana Minerals is self-described “software-first, vertically integrated minerals company focused on supplying the minerals critical to modern energy, AI, and defense technologies.”
Among the software includes MineOS and PlantOS. Mariana says the operating systems at the copper mine will maximize recovery and reduce copper refining costs through heap leaching, solvent extraction and electrowinning.
The company also says that mining operations will restart with autonomous equipment being orchestrated by its operating systems.
The company also plans to integrate copper scrap processing with a scaled combined output goal at the site of 50,000 metric tonnes per year.
The company is aimed at optimization in part via autonomy. Saying there is “a massive amount of meat on the bone in optimizing mining operations” That optimization includes “driving human-in-the-loop operations to near zero.”
The company has 13 listed positions at the Moab Office on their website as of April 7.
The company also has a Lithium project in Texas, and previously announced plans for a nickel project with hopes for additional projects as well.
