Cindi Holyoak - Republican Candidate for San Juan County Recorder

Cindi Holyoak - Republican Candidate
When I was 5 years old, my family relocated to San Juan County from Ogden Utah, in search of a quiet, safe place to raise five children. The year was 1976; it was January, and it was storming and very cold as we made our way, with all of our belongings, down a slick and snowy Highway 191. This would be my first time to pass Wilson Arch, and I can tell you that every time I drive that highway, still today, I am amazed at the beauty and feel blessed to be living, loving, and working in San Juan County.
As an adult, I began my professional life working at Wells Fargo Bank in Monticello (I was there when it was First Security Bank). When I became the Manager, I learned about the importance of checks and balances, how to find accounting errors, how to watch for fraud, and what impacted our general ledger. (This job may have improved my acting skills as well, after having to stall a transaction for over an hour, while awaiting law enforcement to arrive).
As Bank Manager, I went to many training sessions on fraud prevention, customer service, and professionalism. This gave me a wonderful start for my 14 years as City Recorder at the Monticello City Office, where I had the opportunity to wear many hats.
As the Recorder, I became a Certified Municipal Clerk and held the titles of: HR Director, Payroll Administrator, Building Official, Planning & Zoning Administrator, Social Media Specialist, and Finance Director. I loved working for, and with, the citizens of Monticello, and still cherish connections made in my state-wide network of professionals.
In 2020, I made the decision to run for San Juan County Recorder because I care deeply about the people of this county and feel the service I render can benefit everyone.
Fast forward to today; I can tell you that, as your County Recorder, I show up! I show up to work where I strive diligently to improve systems, to help those who need assistance with their land records, and to be an officer who is here for each and every person who walks through the door.
During the last 3.5 years, I have overseen the recording of over 17,000 documents and I, personally, transfer every deed that is recorded. I have built automated systems to improve workflow, which we use every day! I uncovered a six year embezzlement scandal only six months after taking office, achieved a level 1 Elected Official Certification, with over 100 credit hours, gained a Cadastral Mapper Certification, increased revenue from $100,000 to over $300,000 and graduated from Southern Utah University’s Utah Rural Leadership Academy.
Sitting on the legislative Community Development Policy Steering Committee, has given me a heads up on bills presented for the legislature and the changes that should be made in office to follow new legislation. It also gives our small county a voice that we would not have otherwise. I not only show up to work at the office, but I also show up to my state meetings and represent the County in a professional manner, which has increased an already amazing state-wide network of mentors and fellow government leaders.
So, in the midst of a heated campaign season, please know that I have, and will always maintain, the highest standards of professionalism, accountability, and customer service, which I have held during my 18 years of local government experience.
Sincerely, Cindi Holyoak, your San Juan County Recorder.
