Construction on U.S. Highway 491 is underway, anticipated to run through the end of August

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) began a pavement preservation project on U.S. Highway 491 on June 20 to improve the driving surface and extend the life of the road.
The new chip seal will extend from the Monticello port of entry eastward for approximately seven miles.    
Traffic control barrels are up with workers laying down oil and gravel thru the week.  
Crews anticipate working Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Travelers can expect reduced speeds, shoulder closures, narrow lanes, and occasional temporary access restrictions
Flagging operations will alternate traffic through the construction zone.
Drivers accessing the highway from side streets and other accesses should follow the direction of flaggers and construction signs and only enter the highway at the appropriate time and direction of travel. Drivers should also plan for delays of up to 15 minutes.
The speed limit will continue to be reduced while the seal coating cures.
Obeying the posted signs will facilitate safe travel and reduce the potential of damage to the road and vehicles.  
Workers will return the following week to apply an additional sealant and initial striping. These activities will be followed by fixing and updating signs and final painting. 
The project is anticipated to be completely finished by the end of August pending any disruption from weather or wildfire operations.
