County parties caucus, and voice their preference for Presidential nomination
Members of local political parties met on March 5 to participate in a presidential primary election, a presidential preference poll, and in neighborhood caucuses.
A total of 561 San Juan County residents voted in the Democratic Presidential Primary on March 5. In addition, local Democrats met in caucus to select delegates to the county and state Democratic conventions.
In San Juan County, Joseph Biden earned the nod of 443 primary voters, which is 77 percent of the vote. Dean Phillips earned 63 votes (11 percent) while Marianne Williamson earned 44 votes (8 percent).
Statewide, Biden captured 87 percent of the vote, with Williamson earning five percent and Phillips earning 4.4 percent.
Among Republicans, Donald Trump earned the nod of 77 percent of San Juan County Republicans who participated in the presidential preference poll.
A total of 353 San Juan County Republicans participated in the poll, with Trump earning 272 votes (77 percent) and Nikki Haley earning 80 (23 percent).
Statewide, Trump was the preference of 56 percent of those who participated, while Haley was favored by 43 percent.
County and state convention delegates were also selected at the neighborhood caucuses. The Republican county convention will be held on March 28, while the state convention is April 27.
