Davina Smith - Democratic Candidate for Utah House District 69

Common-Sense Solutions for Utah House District 69
I’m Davina Smith, and I’m running to represent Utah House District 69. Raised in Monument Valley and now living in Blanding, I know the unique challenges rural communities face. As a mother of four and advocate, I’m dedicated to solving issues like healthcare access, education quality, and affordability for working families. This election is about ensuring rural Utah has the representation it deserves.
Healthcare for Rural Utah
Healthcare in rural Utah is a challenge. Many families drive hours to see a doctor, and high costs make it difficult to get care. No one should have to choose between health and finances. I believe healthcare is a basic right, and I’m committed to expanding healthcare access across our state.
As your representative, I’ll work to bring more doctors and specialists to rural areas and improve healthcare infrastructure so everyone can get the care they need. Making healthcare affordable is a priority for all Utahns.
Quality Education for All
Every child in Utah deserves a quality education, but our state ranks low in per-pupil spending. This is especially hard on rural schools, where teachers are overworked, and students lack resources. I believe in increasing funding for rural schools and raising teacher pay to attract and retain talented educators.
I also support expanding early childhood education, which sets children up for long-term success. If we want a bright future for rural Utah, education must be a priority.
Protecting Our Public Lands
Utah’s public lands are a vital resource, economically and culturally. For Indigenous communities, places like Bears Ears hold deep significance. As your representative, I’ll fight to protect these lands for future generations.
We can balance conservation with responsible development. By working with local leaders, we can promote sustainable growth that benefits our economy without sacrificing Utah’s natural beauty or heritage.
Relief for Working Families
Supporting Utah families means lowering taxes where it matters most. I support repealing the sales tax on food, which disproportionately affects working families. Additionally, eliminating taxes on Social Security payments will provide relief for seniors.
These changes will help families keep more of their hard-earned money. I also support lowering state and federal income taxes on working families. By focusing on tax relief for working families and retirees, we can make life more affordable.
Tackling the Housing Crisis
Affordable housing is a growing issue in our district. Too many families are being priced out of their communities. I will work on smart housing solutions, including using state and federal resources to build affordable homes, reforming zoning laws, and creating incentives for developers to prioritize local families.
A Bipartisan Approach
Political division often overshadows progress, but I’m committed to working with lawmakers from both parties to find solutions that work for all Utahns. This election is about practical solutions, not pushing a partisan agenda.
A Voice for Rural Utah
Our district is vast, and rural voices often get overlooked. I’ll ensure regular communication through town halls and virtual meetings to make sure every voice is heard. I’ll also create local advisory committees to address the unique needs of our communities.
This election is about building a future where rural Utah thrives. With your vote, we can ensure our voices are heard in Salt Lake City and that our communities get the attention they deserve.
