Dry weather continues for yet another month

Another month of warm and dry weather in San Juan County, with drought conditions strengthening their grip on the area.

In the Drought Monitor released on December 31, the entire county, except for a small sliver in the northwest corner of San Juan County, is listed in Exceptional Drought, the highest of the six-level drought classifications.

Blanding has received just 22 percent of normal moisture for the water year, with 24 percent in Bluff and 44 percent in Monticello.

The snow pack in area mountains is also lower, with less than one foot of snow at the Camp Jackson and La Sal Mountain Sno-Tel reporting stations.
