Fatality at Lake Powell in Wetherill Canyon

The body of a 41-year-old man from Midvale, UT was recovered from the waters of Lake Powell on August 25. Jackson Roy Law apparently tumbled 20 feet off the upper level of a houseboat while the boat was anchored in Wetherill Canyon. Wetherill Canyon is approximately 40 boating miles from the Glen Canyon Dam, in San Juan County.
Officials received a missing person report at approximately 3 a.m. on August 25.
National Park Service Rangers and San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the call. The Utah Division of Outdoor Recreation also provided assistance and Classic Air Medical searched the area by helicopter, but did not locate the victim.
The Glen Canyon National Recreation Area Dive Team recovered the victim’s body after noon on August 25. NPS Rangers on scene pronounced the death.
The incident is under investigation by the National Park Service, San Juan County Sheriff’s Office, and San Juan County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The National Park Service and San Juan County Sheriff’s Office expressed their condolences to the family.
