Former Sheriff’s Deputy charged with sex crimes takes his own life
A retired San Juan County Sheriff’s Deputy took his own life one week after being charged with 14 sexual abuse crimes.
The body of Grayson Redd, age 74 of Monticello, was discovered on July 28 by an employee at a building in Monticello owned by Redd.
In an appearance on Friday, July 26 before Seventh District Judge Don Torgerson, Redd had been released from the Grand County jail after paying a $20,000 cash bond.
Under the terms established at his custody hearing, Redd was required to relocate to Fruita, CO within 72 hours of his release.
The retired Deputy Sheriff was charged with 14 felony counts, including three counts of first degree felony aggravated sexual abuse of a child. The charges go back several decades.
Redd served as a Deputy Sheriff in San Juan County. He retired in 2011.
