Measles cases in three county residents, outside the county
Three San Juan County residents, residing outside the county, test positive for measles.
San Juan Public Health Department announced on Wednesday, February 4 that three “San Juan County residents (currently residing outside of the county)” tested positive for measles.
According to the public health department the three individuals were exposed outside of San Juan County and have not returned to the county meaning there is no transmission risk to the community.
While there are no confirmed cases of measles in people physically residing in San Juan County, the health department did clarify that those cases will be counted as San Juan County cases in accordance with standard practice.
While measles is on the rise across the US, cases haven’t physically reached San Juan County. One case was confirmed in a minor in Grand County in September 2025, that individual was also exposed outside of Grand County with no additional cases in the county since that time. Three cases were confirmed in Montezuma County, Colorado in December 2025.
San Juan Public Health advises county residents to speak with their healthcare providers about the MMR vaccine.
“It's incredibly effective and has been one of the most powerful tools for reducing the spread of measles for many years.”
Public health officials also encouraged Utahns to check their immunization and medical records or talk to a healthcare provider to see if they are protected from measles, with it noted that people born before 1957 likely had measles as a child and are considered immune.
San Juan Public Health also adds they’ll continue to monitor the spread of measles in the region and will provide updates on cases in San Juan County.
