Remains of missing Texas man found in San Juan County

The remains of a man missing since June have been recovered in San Juan County.
On April 3 Grand County Sheriff’s department shared in a release that remains found in San Juan County on March 26, were identified as Texas man Raymond Ankofski.
Raymond Ankofski (58 years old) and his wife Maranda Ankofski (50) went missing on June 21, 2024. The couple was in the Steelbender Trail area along Millcreek in Grand County.
On that day severe flash flooding swept through the area including Millcreek Canyon. While the remains of Maranda Ankofski were found shortly after the couple went missing it was nearly a year before Raymond Ankofski’s remains would be found and identified.
Grand County Sheriff’s department shared that his remains were found 37 miles away from where the couple's UTV’s were found. The remains were found along the Colorado River in San Juan County.
In their statement the Grand County Sheriff’s department thanked the San Juan County sheriff’s department as well as the Utah Department of Public Safety, and the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner for their help in locating, recovering and identifying Raymond Ankofski.
