Stacey Steele - Democratic Candidate

Hello, I’m Stacey Steele, and I am running for San Juan County Recorder. I’m thankful for this opportunity to tell everyone a little bit about myself and why I’m running for Recorder. 
My family has strong roots in San Juan County which is where I grew up.  Even though I have moved away several times in my life, I have always considered San Juan County my home. During one of the times I was away from San Juan County, I received a Bachelor’s Degree from Eastern New Mexico University. I am a certified Cadastral Mapper and I have almost 5 years experience working in the San Juan County Recorder’s Office. 
I first worked in the Recorder’s Office in 2000, when Louise Jones was Recorder. Through her I gained an appreciation for the records and how important it is to make sure they are properly indexed and saved. Not to mention the dedication I learned it takes to be a good recorder. I left the Recorder’s Office in 2001 because I got married and moved to Alaska. Many years later in 2021, the current recorder, Cindy Holyoak, approached me about returning to work in that same office.  I am very grateful to Cindi for giving me the opportunity To return to a job I love.
I am running for San Juan County Recorder because I care about the people and records of our great County. I find the work we do in the Recorder’s Office exciting, educational, rewarding, challenging, and gratifying. I love what I do, and I want to be there to help the public as well as the other offices in the courthouse. I want to guarantee that taxpayer money is being spent responsibly and for the right purpose, and that the records are being handled with the importance they deserve so future generations can find them. If elected, I will ensure that the tax role accurately reflects the land transactions in a timely manner and will routinely confirm recorded documents are properly indexed. I won’t misuse county funds on systems/applications which would not directly benefit the Recorder’s Office or the residents of San Juan County. In addition, I will prioritize being available to the residents of our County to answer questions and address any concerns pertaining to the Recorder’s Office.
