I have lived in Monticello for 49 years, married Patty Black Christensen and have six children and 12 1/2 grandchildren. I love the community and people. I would love to be a part of our growth and development.
I’m running for Monticello City Council for two reasons: 1)- to share my time and serve my community. 2)- to pursue an agenda I would like to share.
#1 Water: A top priority is water. I believe in water conservation, but dry years should not necessarily mean water restrictions. Loyds Lake can alleviate most of our problems. We can get the job done. Water decisions should be made knowing our capabilities. I believe in new water development with a common sense approach. I believe in citizen participation and a long- term plan.
#2 Annexation: I am pro-growth, but we must be careful. With 560 existing residential water connections, adding more is of great concern. Don’t compromise our present commitments. Good planning and decision making is a must.
#3 Fringe-areas: It is reasonable to expect people who want services to live in city limits.
#4 City Debt: Increasing debt may hinder future city councils. I am concerned about faltering business, growth cycles, property and sales tax, school impacts, high rates, and decisions made without public input.
#5 Recreation: City recreation is becoming a concern. We should explore volunteer rather than city-managed programs. Rowdy Boys and JOL volleyball is a prime example of what volunteers can do!
#6 Priorities: There is a distinct difference in how to deal with priorities. Some roads are rebuilt every four or five years and some every 20 to 30 years. I have worked many years in road construction and maintenance is a must!
Roads are one of many priorities to deal with. I would like to root out some problems. I will work in harmony with city government and represent the citizens of this community. I appreciate your vote.
